Female Philanderers

Clark, Jessica AP English IV September 2, 2003 The Wife of Bath was one of the few women on the pilgrimage to Canterbury. She was described as a woman who knows what she wants, and had five husbands. She was not afraid of asserting her sexuality. She was also described as a woman who held an insatiable appetite for love. One of her beliefs is that philandering is not exclusively a male prerogative; it is also a woman’s. This belief is apparent in Chaucer’s descriptions of her and in “The Wife of Bath’s Tale.” This belief still holds truth in modern society; in the way women are portrayed on television, in stories, and in real life.
