National Interests, Above or Below?

... levels of other countries. This same thing was happening with Japan; they were trying to get a free ride up to the top by helping Germany and ended up the lowest they could. After these facts I must admit I know of one country that seems to have pushed others around to get to the top and have been there for a long time, no other countries have taken them down. This country is the United States of America, they have bombed, stole, and fought to become the world’s greatest super power. I believe the only reason they haven’t and continue not to fall is because no country is strong enough to make them. The USA was not always like this, in fact during the First World War they were one of the least greedy, they only entered the war close to the end in order to stop the Germans attacking them. President Woodrow Wilson wanted world peace and was striving to achieve this goal at the time, he even planned the League of Nations in his idea of world peace, but didn’t actually join because the USA preferred isolationism. Germany was battling World War I in France and wanted to get into France where they were lacking troops, so they attempted to go over Belgium to get into the north-east of France. Belgium however was remaining indifferent but once Germany attacked them, on the way through to France, Britain troop came to fend off Germany. A lot of damage had been done to Belgium and they were not able to just step away from the war now. In the end Belgium lost a lot of men and had a wrecked economy which had to be started over. The USA is doing a similar thing to Iraq, all the fighting over there is Bush’s way of saying ‘give us your cheap oil.’ This seems very unfair, especially now that Canadian and Australian troops are practically forced to help. Canada, Australia, and Japan seem to be the only countries doing extraordinarily well without being crooked. Canada has done its share of fighting and pushing to get economically great but has always fought a good battle bringing others with us. This is proven by looking at the enemies Canada has had, the great economy, and standard of living. I’m sure that the USA has a better...
