A computer virus is an illegal and potentially damaging computer program designed by malicious hackers with the intent of effacing computer data. The virus works by infecting software, attaching itself to any programs it contacts. Often times, virus programs are designed to damage computer systems by destroying or corrupting information. If the infected data is transferred to or accessed by another computer, the virus spreads to the other system. Viruses have become commonplace in recent years, and currently, thousands of known virus programs exist. Three well known virus types are categorized as; boot sector virus, file virus, and Trojan horse virus.
