...meticulous and careful about not leaving any evidence behind that he was not actually dead. He thought his plan through from start to finish and didn’t rush any of the details. He was even careful and intelligent enough to pull out some of his own hair and out it on the ax so there would be no doubt that he was actually dead. Another part of his plan that shows his intelligence was when he hid in the canoe and waited until his dad came home so he was sure he would not run into him on the river. Huck also did not try to sneak away while his dad was in the cabin either, he waited until he knew his father had gone back to town to get help and would be gone long enough for Huck to get in the river safely. Another way Huck demonstrated his intelligence was when Huck and Jim were floating down the river and they come to a few men in a canoe who were searching for runaway slaves. Huck pretends that his father is on the raft and has smallpox so that the men don’t come close to the raft and discover that he is hiding a runaway slave. Instead, the men feel bad for Huck and his “father” so they send him some money on a piece of driftwood. The night after the men were looking for Jim, the raft got ran over by a steamboat and Huck finds shelter in the Grangerfords house. He again shows his intelligence and ability to think logically thinking when he finds out about the feud. When he asks about the why the families are feuding and can’t get any answers because no one knows, he feels that is not logical and can’t understand why they were still fighting if no one even knew why. By not understanding why they were still fighting it may seem that Huck in not very smart but it actually is just the opposite. Reasonable and logical people would realize that the whole feud is foolish and childish. Since Huck didn’t understand and agree with the feud, he must have been thinking logically. In this book Huck Finn is not the only one that never had a formal education but acts intelligently. Jim acts intelligently when he is first on Jackson Island and he tells Huck his plan of what he wants to do with his new freedom. This shows his intelligence because he was not just running away without any thought of his family or anything else. He decided to ride the raft to the mouth of the Mississippi then get off there and ride a steamboat up the river to free states where he...
