The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy - DOUGLAS ADAMS

...That's the way you traveled around the world? A: Only in the beginning. Then Zafod had stolen a star ship named "Heart of Gold", and we used it. T: What so special about it? M: It travels by the Force of Infinite Improbability. T: Which means...? M: If you can calculate the chance of being in some place at a certain moment, the Force of Infinite Improbability can bring you there without the need to actually travel there. A: That kind of voyage has some side effects though. Like the time we were attacked by a couple of an unknown missiles whom by mistake came upon us, and right in the last moment I pressed the button that operates this force. T: And? What happened? A: Well, one of the missiles turned into a bowl of pentanes and the other one changed into an sperm whale. T: Ahh..., yeah. Anyway, Marvin, let's talk a little about you. How are you doing? M: Depressed as usual. T: And why is that? M: I blame it on the marketing division of Sirius Cyvernetics Corporation. "Let's build robots with Genuine People Personalities ,"they said. So they tried it with me. I'm a personality prototype. You can tell, can't you? T: Yes. Ahhhm... Let's take a little break of commercials. M: I'm not getting you down, don't I? T: We're back now. Tell me Arthur, didn't you save the world? A: A couple of times. Yes. T: I see you even found the answer to the big question of life, The Universe, and everything? A: That's true. T: Well? A:42. T: That's all? A: Yeah...the thing is that we have never found out what was the question of life, universe etc. T: I see. Well thank you very much, Marvin and Arthur for being here with us. I'm Talco-Tixgorotc saying big goodbye to all of you out there... MAY THE FORCE Streghen your hands Folks .... !!!! end.. 2.The message of the story. This story is supposed to be funny and not realistic at all. It was created for the beginners or the light readers of science fiction. For Example the major question they(the group) searched the answer for was (as you'll read next in this Document).. "what is the answer for the great question of life", and their answer was "42", which has some symbolic meanings though. There is no message in the whole story. But I think there is a very nice one in this paragraph: "...It is an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed, that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on, - while all the dolphins ever done was much in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons..." The message here is of course that sophistication is not always a good thing and you can not define it exactly. 3. Description of one of the characters: Ford Prefect. Ford has first arrived to the planet Earth some fifteen years ago, and he had worked hard to blend himself into earth society- with, it must be said, some success. For instance. He had spent those fifteen years pretending to be an out of work actor, which was plausible enough. He had made one careless blunder though, because he had skimped a bit on his preparatory research. The information he had gathered had led him to choose the name Ford Prefect. He was not conspicuously tall, his features were striking but not conspicuously handsome. His hair was wiry and with some "Orange" color and brushed backward from the temples. His skin seemed to be pulled backward from the nose. There was something very slightly odd about him, but it was that his eyes did not seem to blink often enough, and when you talked to him for any length of time your eyes began involuntary to water on his behalf. Perhaps it was that he smiled too broadly and gave people the unnerving impression that he was about "to go for their neck". He strunk most of the friends he made on earth as eccentric, but a harmless one - an unruly boozer with some oddish habits. For instance, he would often get crash university parties, get badly drunk and start making fun of any astrophysicists he could find till he got thrown out. Sometimes he would get seized with oddly distracted moods and stare into the sky as if hypnotized until someone asked him what he was doing. Then he would start guiltily for a moment, and in some cases even change colors. "Oh, just looking for flying saucers," he would joke, and every one would laugh and ask him what sort of flying saucers he was looking for. "Green ones", He would reply. In fact what he was really looking for when he stared looking into the sky was any kind of saucer at all. The reason he said green was that green was the traditional space livery of the scouts from his planet. Ford wish that a flying saucer would arrive soon because he knew how to flag it down and get lifts from them. He knew how to see the Marvels of the universe in less than thirty dollars a day. In fact Ford was a reasearcher for that wholly remarkable book, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." 4. A new ending for the story. In the end of the story the gang finds out what is the answer to the great question of life, the universe and everything. Their answer is 42. But after discovering the answer to the question their problem was that they could not recall what was the question. I have done a little researching and discovered it. My new ending will go like this. "Hey Earth boy!" said Zafod. "Yes?" replied Arthur. "My computer, Edi, just told me the question that we were looking for..." "Really?" asked Ford all excited. "Well, yes, but you would not like it...". "We don't care!" Said Trilian "Tell us!". "You will really hate it..." "That does not matter!". "O.K." "Well?" "The question..." "Yes?" "Of life..." "Yes?" "The universe..." "Go on!" "And everything is..." "I'll kill you if you won't tell me now!", Said Arthur. "Is 6 X 7..." "I thought so," said Marvin. THE END. 5. About The Author. Douglas Ad...
