The thyroid is the gland that secretes hormones into the bloodstream that helps control the body’s temperature, mood, producing more hormones, metabolisms, and muscles. In graves disease the antibodies for some reason begin to attack the thyroid making it enlarged and produce more hormones. There are many different symptoms of this disease. Often times you develop anxiety. The insides of your body feel so shaky and it is hard to control your emotions. Laughing or crying for no reason is very common. Another symptom is weight loss. For instance, in my case, I was losing almost a pound a day. Because of the weight loss your eyes seems to protrude from you face and vision is often blurred. At night time, it takes hours to fall asleep. Insomnia is one of the major symptoms. No matter how tired you may feel or how hard you try it is like you are wide awake and unable to close your eyes. Tremors of the hands and fingers make writing, and other tasks that involve being steady very difficult. The muscles become very weak, thus carrying things and lifting will wear you out more than any other healthy day. This disease is often treated with pills that decrease the production of the hormones. However, if this does not seem to be able to regulate the thyroid at a normal level, many doctors eventually turn to removing the thyroid by surgery or drinking radioactive iodine to dissolve the thyroid gland...
