...Empire styles in France. The Louis XIV, XV and XVI furniture style refers to the Classic French furniture designs ranging from the mid 1600’s to the late 1700’s. These styles grew to be simpler and more refined. Louis XIV style is larger and more ornate. Louis XV is simpler and features curved lines and some ornamentation. Louis XVI features geometric shapes, straight lines and minimal ornamentation. . It is the Louis XV period that is most commonly chosen for the Traditional Style for it’s more refined and simpler lines. The early Elizabethan architecture was most fluent from the years of 1558-1603. This style was named after Queen Elizabeth I. Many of the styles of Roman architecture were retrieved from the Greeks when the Romans took over Greece. The buildings, domes, arches, pillars, and vaults were all some different styles in buildings. Some of the styles of buildings were amphitheaters, aqueducts, baths, basilicas, and temples. During the Elizabethan era of architecture, most of the buildings were country houses owned by the nobility. The houses had magnificent mullions, chimneys, and friezes. Many of these homes were filled with gorgeous windows. They were very symmetrical with E and H shapes. Many people contribute this to Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth. When these houses were built attention was paid to comfort instead of defense. Most of the houses were built around inner courtyards. They had beautiful halls, which remained the center of life. They had a winter parlor that was used as a dining room. Another type of home was the Tudor house. It was a timber-framed that was left to be weathered instead of tarred. These homes had a long gallery to play games, to display art, and to take walks in. The rooms opened right into each other and this showed that privacy was an important concept.
