The UVic Writer’s Guide: Review

The information on the website has a lot of depth towards novice writers, as it only elaborates on general essay writing skills, which a senior high school student should already have acquired throughout earlier courses. There are links to more advanced types of essays but they lead to nothing more then a brief explanation. If the reader wishes to learn about a specific essay like writing a proper review, he will not find sufficient information on that topic on any other specific type of essay for that matter. The guide is presented rather nicely. It is clear, spacious and does not have pop-up commercials. The downfall is the missing ability to search through the site. The reader gets lost very easily, and has to start all over almost every time a new link is clicked. While reading through “The Essay”, the reader might find himself in a completely different subject like “General Literary Terms”. There are no links that take you to the next link in sequence, instead you just have to click back and move on by yourself. Once the reader spends some time into learning how the website works, there are a lot more useful tools...
