IDENTITY in Of Mice and Men, Speak, and Dragon Wings

He was sometimes rude and aggressive towards Lennie, but it was normal for his personality and he had always the intention of protecting Lennie. In the contrary, Heather, a character in Speak, acted always against her own will with the only purpose of being accepted in the Marthas club. Due to her lack of identity, Heather was used by the Martha’s and was never happy with the result of what she did to please the girls instead of pleasing herself. Just like Heather, a massive amount of teenagers hadn’t found their true identity and therefore have serious problems when dealing with their surroundings. When a person has no identity and is introduced to drugs, for example, they are most of the times under peer pressure, and since they have no fixed opinion towards the usage of that substance, they follow what others say and may end up opting for the wrong direction.
