...ing was a mural of Jesus at the Jordan River. Allison especially liked the portrait exclaiming “I took the notion that art should surprise and astonish, and hopefully make you think something you had not thought until you saw it” (Allison 259). She makes this comment due to the fact that her first experience of seeing a painting was a thorough one. Allison was particularly intrigued by the mural, she couldn’t take her eyes off it staring at it as she wondered if Jesus was about to come alive. Allison believes that truly great art can be present in many different forms. Writing being one of them, “I think that using art to provoke uncertainty is what great writing and inspired images do most brilliantly. Art should provoke more questions than answers and, most of all, should make us think about what we rarely want to think about at all” (261). This quote signifies that Allison’s writing is truly a form of art. Her writing is full of creating uncertainty through topics in which she has sadly experienced. Her detailed description provides amazing imagery for the reader to ponder, forcing the reader to construct questions in there minds about issues that are rarely thought about. Allison continues to force the issue in her writing and bring about serious issues in her writing; however she disguises these subjects first by seducing the reader’s attention and then luring them into her world of imagination. She has this individual skill of art due to the fact that she can see the art that everyday people commonly ignore. Allison makes a tremendous point addressing the fact that we as individuals are not the same. “We are a nation of nations, Regions, social classes, economic circumstances, ethical systems, and political convictions- all separate us even as we pretend they do not” (263). She goes on to make the interesting point that art makes all of this absolutely plain.
