...set in the summer of 1967. In the play ‘Away’ Coral goes through significant changes. In the beginning of ‘Away’ Coral’s solilquay shows her as a tragic figure and Roy reinforces distant from society, “You’ll have to take stock, come back to reality”, Coral replies “ I mightn’t like it there”, which shows she hasn’t come to terms with the loss. Next Coral is seen with Rick having intimate conversations in this scene we see Coral desperately trying to find her son within Rick, in their conversation Coral says “ You’d have made into the army easily…”, “You’re still alive. You’re still alive and talking and laughing.” Coral is then shown as an artist Kate Woods has given her audience exactly what they wanted - a fine adaptation of a popular novel by Melina Marchetta - ‘Looking for Alibrandi.’ There is much to enjoy about this film – its great performances, its careful dissection of family, love and migration. However I believe there are elements of the film Looking for Alibrandi that vaguely let it down. In my opinion it isn’t the best evaluation of the book. It lacks a number of minor but significant details as well as relationships which have not been develope...
