What aspects of Raju's actions and behaviors do you find unforgivably flawed and what would you perceive as redeeming. Elaborate by making specific references to the text.
...er due to his behaviors. Raju’s mother must had hurt so much when her reputation was banished and the fact that Raju would have rather his mother stays in his uncle’s home. It is unforgivable as he had neglected his only other close relatives, and even chased her out of the house where his husband had built with his own hands. He treats her in such a brusque manner and had ignored the numerous letters that was sent by his mother. The only thing that he bothered mailing was the lease of the house. I find that totally unforgiving as it simply shows that Raju had no basic respect and concern for his mother. There are certain flaws in Raju that I think are unforgivable. Raju’s biggest flaw would be that he allows his emotions to overrule his actions. For example, Raju attacked the porter when he was force to give up his shop at the railway station. The argument that was conjured made Raju’s mother running across to the scene, when in her entire life, she seldom leaves the house unless when she does her grocery and chores. I think it is unforgiving when he adds the burden and shame to his mother’s life. Furthermore, it is unforgivable as I feel that he himself should be blamed for not taking full responsibility and commitment in his family business, as he had handed his shop to the porter’s son for caretaking. He had neglected everything around him when Rosie came into his life. Raju is also a manipulator. When he takes up the role of ‘Railway Raju’, he had manipulated and exploited the tourists, where he mentioned ‘falsehood’. It is unforgivable as he knew that he had fabricated information on the historical or natural values of the sites in Malgudi. He gave excuses of uttering falsehood to make things pleasant, but I feel that that was because he was trying to sooth his conscious of manipulating his tourists. It is unforgivable as he carried on telling lies even after subconsciously knowing that it is bad. As a deceiver and manipulator, Raju had lied his ways when he was mistakenly thought as a ‘Holy Man’. He fabricated his religious stories an virtues to get something out of it, for example, asking Velan to get an food for him. I feel that it is unforgivable as he had cheated on the entire village who are more gullible than him. Another flaw of Raju is that he allows his emotion to completely rule his actions. Raju was smitten by Rosie, he was obsessed with Rosie to the point that his entire life revolved around her. "The only reality in my life and consciousness is Rosie." Raju then proceeds to neglect his mother, spending very little time at home. He also handed over his shop to the porter's son for caretaking, similarly neglecting it. "I was leaving too much to the boy to manage." Raju often acts on impulse without any thoughts of the consequences. Examples include his obsession with Rosie and how he neglected everything else and how he tried to attack the porter when he was infuriated but his words. "I did not like the porter's reference, and so said something violent and tried to attack him." However, despite the unforgivable flaws that Raju has, it is undeniable that Raju has some traits that is redeeming. Raju had directly given a great opportunity for the village children by giving them educat...
