... walking through those woods. What I did not get is why Brown was randomly running into various people. Maybe I missed something. I would have like to have gotten a better description of the characters in the story. It would have helped me characterize their personalities better. All Hawthorne mentioned was their key features. Such as Faith’s pink ribbons on her cap, the travelers staff that resembled a serpent, or how Brown considered everyone so godly and moral. Although Hawthorne did mention that the second traveler resembled an elderly Goodman Brown, he did not mention what brown looked like. Just that the two could be considered to look like father and son. Hawthorne’s moralist personality really shined through in this story. He did show the dark side of human nature. I do think he made a very valid point, but exaggerated it. But I also took into consideration that when this story took place and now are two totally different times. There are many people who go to church on Sundays and pretend to live a holy life, but when you see them in the street they are completely a different person. Now and then people want to have a good title to their name, but still thrive off sin and temptation. I thought it was ironic that Brown decided to stop and turn back.
