The positive impacts include advertisement as a major industry; it provides abundant opportunities for thousands of unemployed people. Revenue from advertisement pays wages and allows many sports and charity events to take place. Advertisements can educate us by promoting different cultures and styles. It is useful for leading people to know about charities, or organisations helping the environment. Advertisements can add an element of humour to our lives. Many catchphrases come from television advertisement, which are widely quoted by us for many years. If there were no advertisement many people would not know the dangers of smoking, fireworks, cot death, and many other dangers to society. If there were no advertisement many people would not be aware of racial discrimination, third world poverty, famine, disease and other world issues. However, although there are many advantageous impacts to the society, advertisement has also proved to be a dangerous and seedy market. The negative impacts involve advertisements often distort truth or cheat the customer in order to sell an idyllic and unattainable image to more and more influential societies. In a world obsessed with image, advertisers are passionate on selling an image rather than a product. They exaggerate many things, which often mislead the shoppers or the viewers to buy their products, which they really don’t need. Many advertisements shown on TV use a lot of sexual and unhealthy images. Some products like Cigarettes and medicines can cause serious damage to a person’s health.
