...ot? Going back to school is going to be a long and sometimes difficult road that a person must journey down and there will be changes, challenges and obstacle to overcome. Dr Spence Johnson the author of Who Move My Cheese describes changes as, “It is fear that is the greatest impediment to change.”(Johnson & Blanchard, 1997, p. 70) If a person can embrace changes and turn the fear into courage and determination, there is nothing that he or she could not accomplish. With this thought process embedded in my mind, I know I can reach my short-term goal of obtaining a degree in the Criminal Justice from University of Phoenix. This would get me closer to my long-term goal; to become a Probation Officer. Probation Officer There are a couple of reasons that I would like to become a Probation Officer. The primary reason is the major impact and interaction in that Probation Officers have on young man and woman’s life. A Probation Officer’s job is not merely to maintain order and discipline of trouble youth their jobs go will beyond that. He or she provides mentoring, becomes a role models, and a pillar of the community. The justice system is set up to punish our misguided youth if they go astray or off the path of justice that is govern for our society. Once that person has been punished for the mistakes he or she have made, (“failure can be an extremely effectives learning experience, but it takes moral courage to allow It.”(Myers, 2003, 113) failures in life are merely mistakes that people make and learn from.) They are release to the custody of the Probation Officer. Probation officers are set in place for supervision and guidance of our misguide society. This is where all the changes in that young man or woman life come into play. It is up to the Probation Officer to guide our trouble youth back to the road of success.
