He started out small by being a political cartoonist, advertising illustrator, and a documentary film maker(Brunner3). gradually his career exploded into great triumph after he wrote The Cat in the Hat. He then became known as Dr. Seuss; using his mothers maiden name (“Seuss”2). He went on to become married twice but never had any children. his career spanned for six decades, and he wrote a total of 46 books. Dr. Seuss’s most famous book was The Cat in the Hat. This book established his reputation and transformed the world of Children’s books(“Dr. Seuss”4). His books used a limited amount of words. A critic said “the story lines are extremely simple, beginning and ending in the ordinary world”(“Seuss”3). They were all simple enough for very young children to read(6). He would lure the child to think on and wonder what would happen next(“Seuss”1). This would get them more interested in the books and keep wanting to read on. His books brought a whimsical touch, and a colorful imagination to the world of children’s literature(Brunner25). A reviewer wrote “his books are wildly funny with a glorious moral that's good for a lifetime“(“Seuss“4). He did many different and new things in his books. For example, he was the first writer to have a character burp on the pages of a children's book (“Seuss”2). His books were not only enjoyed by children, but adults also enjoyed the fun filled pages(1). He once said “ I no longer write for children. I write for people”(3). It has been said that “Dr. Seuss, was probably the best selling children’s book writer of all time”(“Seuss”2). Because of him children's literature grew greatly.
