The Charmer
...at the thought of another character on the pathway to be coming the same type of character as the brother, as she looked to be following in the same foot steps as Zach, but that is short lived as her mom grabbed a hold of her reigns and makes a decision she should have made with Zach. In the story the main character is Winifred; which means “friend of peace” (Wilson, 101). During the story, Winifred experiences growth by seeing her brother’s true character. Winifred’s older brother Zach is eleven years older than her. Zach had a way with Winifred; he would take advantage of her kindness and generosity, as she would always do what he asked. “I was Zachary’s willing slave” (Wilson, 102). Zach is immature and has no goals in life. Everyday for Zach is fun and games. With no job, he relies on his parents to support him whenever he should be in need of assistance. Zach would often take advantage of his mother’s weakness to always give in to him, as he was a charmer. “How could someone with any taste buds at all ignore the creation of so great a cook” (Wilson, 102). Winifred’s parents are easily charmed and are pushovers, as previously mentioned. When Lizzie, the youngest sister, was in the hospital with cancer, Zach took the car, leaving the rest of the family at home, unable to get too the hospital to visit with her.
