In 1944 Bettie became a teacher at George Peabody’s high school. Not after to long she quit. She then graduated from Peabody with a bachelors degree and later left Billy in the fall of 1946. By 1947 Bettie was living in Manhattan, she had several secretary jobs through the years. She used her money for acting classes. She dreamed of being a famous Hollywood star. She moved back and forth from Miami to New York to Nashville, but felt most comfortable in Miami. In October 1950 Bettie went for a walk on Coney Island when she saw a handsome young man, his name was Jerry Tibbs, he told her his hobby was photography. After a long chat he asked if he could photograph her. They met up one afternoon for the shoot, Jerry was looking at Bettie and said “Why don’t you brush your bangs down?”.
