... a law abiding citizen does. Prisoners always receive three meals a day, a roof over their heads, and plenty of extra-curricular activities. You have a choice to work or not to work. Punishment should mean you work, learn new skills, and be responsible for thenselves and their actions. When a person is convicted of rape, murder, or drug related offenses, they are sent to a facility where they are surrounded by people committing the same crimes. For example, if a person is convicted of rape, where rape is an often occurence, he or she will still have the opportunity to commit the same crime he or she was convicted and sentenced for. Although they have been taken out of society, they are still free to repeat their crimes in prison with no reprecussions. Finally, rehabilitation in prisons is laughable. A murderer in prison is only going to find new ways to become a more sly murderer. In order to rehabilitate a hardened criminal, you would have to remove the criminal from the hostile environment of the prison. Expectations of being rehabilitated in a prison can never be accomplished in the general population of a prison. Prisons should not furnish c...
