...repare for the diversity I will find in my classroom. One step that I can take is to enroll in a multicultural course. This will be very beneficial because it introduces me to cultures I never knew existed, and enhance the knowledge of cultures I am already aware of. Because, the class is multicultural I will learn about more than the dominant cultures society seem to focus on. My students will have a teacher that is well adapted to celebrating holidays that are not on the calendar. They will learn of Kwanzaa, Cinco de Mayo, the Chinese New Year, and other important cultural events. Most importantly, they will not be ashamed or embarrassed to share with me or the class traditions that their family celebrate. They will also feel comfortable with dressing differently, because it is part of their culture. I want my students to feel comfortable and accepted of their cultural background. Another step I can take to prepare for the diversity I will face in the classroom will be to take a global studies course. This will enable me to understand various cultures and where the concepts for the way they live come from.
