The Catholic bishops of New York state have stated “the Death penalty is no more the answer to crime than abortion is the answer for unplanned pregnancies” (Catholic Against Capital Punishment). Unlike a prison term which can have substitutions at any time, the death penalty, once executed there can be no changes. We must remember that even though people make horrible mistakes God is in each and every one of us. We learn as Christians about love and forgiveness. The death penalty is and UN-Christian like action. There have been many challenges to the legality of the death penalty. Almost every European nation has either formally abolished the death penalty for civil crimes. There can sometimes be an unfair administration for capital punishment. Capital punishment is inflicted unfairly on the poor people. There is always a possibility of an error. Sometimes a person might be put to death that is really innocent. Inequalities within the law will always exist. Perfect justice is one importance our society should strive to have. Some people think that the death penalty is necessary. The death penalty may seem to be the way out or the answer for people who commit such horrible crimes. No one wants criminals out lurking on the streets because of the chance that they may attack or harm others. They feel that the death penalty will stop some of the many crimes committed. Some of those individuals who are for the death penalty also may go by sayings such as “If one takes a life, one must die as well.” Those same people who favor this penalty may use the Bible as their influence. “Whoever sheds the blood of a man by man shall his blood be shed; for God made man in his own image” ( Bible, Genesis 9:6). “He who blasphemes the name of the Lord shall be put to death…He wh...
