Planning the paper is just as important as the actual writing of the paper. The basic steps to a research paper are brainstorming a topic, outlining the topics you plan to cover, researching the topics, writing the rough draft, editing, and completing the final draft. More important than the actual research, is the outlining process. Developing the thesis statement is one of the hardest parts of outlining for me. Another part that I hope to improve on is the conclusion. For some reason I seem to have trouble bringing all my thoughts together at the end. I am a very detail oriented person and instead of writing a synopsis, I find myself wanting to add everything I have written about in the essay. This is a habit I am trying very hard to break. Practice makes perfect! Plagiarism is unfair to all parties involved. It is important to give credit to the author of the work you are using for reference. When you do not properly give credit, the author does not get the recognition he deserves for writing a work that is worth using for reference.
