That is the processing of US visas for nursing, and allied health care professionals, have been delayed or set backed for almost a 2 year processing period. Meaning, those who have been in the process 2 years ago are only being given visas now. The response of the US government particularly the politicians is portrayed in the recent proposal (a bill pending in US congress) to borrow the allocations from other countries to supplement the backlog for these visas (for China, the Philippines, and Indonesia). In the application for immigration to Canada ( application as an immigrant worker in Canada, to land any job there initially ) I have heard that the processing of visas in that category, which was before only took 6 months to utmost a year, now takes 3 years. And there are even news that the live-in caregiver program in Canada are not being paid properly, that they are being asked to do menial jobs for their employers, things which are not stipulated in their contracts. Activities like handling the family chores, or doubling up as an errands person, working as an extra hand in the personal business of their employers are way too common. Worst they get to earn little not only for these extra tasks but for the whole employment package. On the bright side,the Japanese government has decided to employ more health care professionals, and cut back on the allocations for entertainers. (The ones we formerly know as japayukis and hostos.) The implication of this is hiring you, newly graduates of professional health caregiving. The only setback is that you first have to learn the dialect, nippongo. (As we all know that Japanese are very nationalistic and they take pride in speaking their language.) Hopefully, Singapore and Korea will follow the desires of this Asian giant. And we will hear greater demands in the Asian region for professional health caregivers. At this point we should define what a professional Health Caregiver is.
