Seeing so many different textiles on display in the Yomitan Historical and Folk Craft Museum, you really get a sense of how artist they are, each one so different from the next. Visiting Mr. Yamada’s house and studio was the highlight of the day. Observing the artist in there working environment was truly amazing. All of the interns work so tediously on everything they made. Being invited into his home was a real honor. All of the pottery was very contemporary in design, and so striking. Easy to see why he is such a skilled master of the craft. Seeing the noborigama shows just how creative the Okinawans are. That was a very inventive way of building a kiln so the heat could rise up the hill. We didn’t really get to see as much of the glass blowing that I would have really liked to see. Still was great to see, how they all worked in sync with one another.
