A Good Man Is Hard to Find: Foreshadowing
...st interesting character. She is a mind manipulator, and she is good at her craft. The story opens up with her trying with her trying to persuade Bailey to go to Tennessee instead of Florida for personal reasons. She gets Bailey to read an article in the newspaper about a prison break of a man named Misfit who said to headed towards Florida. This is the first sign of foreshadowing because it is a hint of a future event. Later own in the story Bailey and his family meets up with misfit and his crew. The Grandmother is an interesting character you have to admire her persistence; she is unable to manipulate Bailey to change his plans so she tries to manipulate Bailey’s wife by trying to stir up an argument with her. She argues that they should not take the children to Florida since the children have already been to Florida. Bailey’s wife doesn’t feed her argument and ignores her. So she lowers her self by stirring up an argument with the children she ask John Wesley what would he do if the ran across the Misfit. John Wesley replied “ I’d smack him in the face.” He said. This is the next sign of foreshadowing in the story because later own in the story they will meet up with the Misfit and John Wesley will have a chance to honor his commitment. Foreshadowing is shown in the begging of this story; they show the reader signs of future events that will happen later own in the story. On the way to Florida From Georgia the family enters a town called Toombsboro, the since the town is called Toombsboro this is foreshadowing because they end up being murdered in this town. When you think of Tombs you think of graves and death thats why the name of town is foreshadowing in this story because they are all killed in this town. On the way out of Tombsboro Grandmother remembers about an old plantation she visted when she was a young lady. The grandmother goes it to detail about describing the house she describes to be so intesting and so nice that the more she described it the more she wanted to see it. She knew she would be unable to persuade Bailey to go to the house so she puts a seed in the children’s head and makes up a story about a secret panel in the house that would lead to the to all the family’s silver. The children are intrigued by this story and thy finally end up getting Bailey to go visit the house. Bailey goes against his will and turns the car around to go to the plantation. On the way to the plantation the Grandmother remembers something terrible, she remembers that the old Plantation was in Tennessee instead of Georgia. The cat Pitty Sing jumps on the Baileys shoulder and forces him to crash the car. Luckily everyone survives the crash but they do not survive the Misfit and his crew. The town Toombsboro name is appropriate because in a since this is where the family found their tomb therefore the name of this town was a sign of foreshadowing. The last sign of foreshadowing in this story “A Good Man Is Hard To Find,” Is after Bailey crashes the car and everyone scurvi...
