Reason of Jesus incarnation
... women will be his enemy. The offspring here is referred to the Messiah Jesus Christ. The promise of God sending His son to the world is seen through the Old Testament. To highlight some verse are in Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name will be called "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace", Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young woman shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” and in Micah 5:2 “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days (RSV). Jesus incarnation was to fulfill Gods promise of the one who will be the Savior from sin and as a King in His kingdom. Jesus came into the world through the line of David that the Lord has given Him the throne of His father David (Luke 1:32) Secondly, He died on the cross to fulfill the promise of a Savior from sin. Thiessen stated that “Jesus died as a substitutionary sacrifice and became the world’s Savior and the cornerstone of the church. For without this reason we Christians today cannot share about a God who is true to His promise and merciful to the gentiles. B. TO REVEAL THE FATHER God is revealed as the creator, the might one, the Great I am, governor in the Old Testament. Thiessen stated that the Old Testament reveals the unity, holiness, might and beneficence of God. Jesus incarnations were the revelation of God the father to his people. In John 14:9 Jesus said that “He who has seen me has seen the Father.” (RSV) Firstly He said to them that He was the representation of the Father. Secondly, Jesus, revealed the work of God the Father for his love for us, who knows our needs, and showing that God will not withhold anything from us His children. Jesus showed us His relationship with God the Father and with us His people. C. TO BECOME A FAITHFUL HIGH PRIEST The Old Testament states that high priest was taken from among men in order that they might faithfully represent men. Jesus came in order to become qualified to act as a faithful high priest. Jesus was taken among men for this reason due to His Incarnation. In Hebrews 2:10 the Bible states that “For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering (RSV).” In order for us humans to be cleansed from our sinful nature we need a high priest to offer our sacrifice on our behalf. Man needed someone who was without sin to perform this obligation. Hebrews 4:15 states that “For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin (RSV).” Jesus incarnation was what man was waiting for. Jesus became high priest who was born of a virgin, tempted but not found with any weakness. D. TO PUT AWAY SIN In Mark 10:45 the Bible states that “For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." (RSV) Jesus came to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. Thiessen states that this is the purpose of all purpose. This is a clear indication that Jesus needed to become man in order to die for the sins of mankind. In 1 John 3:5 it states that “You know that he appeared to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.” (RSV) This shows us that Jesus came to redeem men from their sin by death. Jesus here is compared to the scapegoat of the Old Testament. On the Day of Atonement, one goat was offered in sacrifice and another one is sent to the wildness after the sin of men had been confessed upon it head, thus Christ was the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. This was clearly mentioned by Isaiah the prophet when he said that “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all (RSV)” (53:6). Without Christ man would have died because of his sin. Jesus Christ is man's Redeemer, his Savior. This truth is implied in His name. The angel said, " Thou shall call his name Jesus (meaning Savior), for He shall save His people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21). Christ defined the purpose of His Incarnation and earthly ministry when He said, "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance" (Mark 2:17). There is no implication in these words that there is a sinful class of men who need repentance and another righteous class who do not. Nor is there a suggestion that there are righteous ones, for in Romans 3:10 it is said, "There is none righteous, no, not one." E. TO DESTROY THE WORK OF THE DEVIL In Hebrews 2:14 the Bible say that “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same nature, that through death he might destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil, (RSV).” This clearly shows us that the coming of Christ, particularly His work on the cross brought defeat to Satan. Death was the domain of the Devil but when Jesus died and arose from the death, He defeated the one who had the power of death which is the devil. Thiessen demonstrated this idea further when he stated that “If, then the whole purpose of Christ’s first appearing was to remove sins and to undo the works of the devil, Christians must not compromise with either sin or the devil, or they find themselves fighting against Christ” The shadow of the cross hung over the manger in Bethlehem, assuring the world that the Seed of the woman would bruise the serpent's head (Genesis 3:15). As Adam yielded himself to Satan, Satan held him in death; but by His dying, Christ entered into our death and wrested from Satan that power which he held over us. At Calvary Satan was brought to naught, and now death is swallowed up in victory which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (I Corinthians 15:54, 57). "The prince of this world is judged" (John 16:1 1). The Seed of the woman cross the realms of death but was not captured by the enemy. Instead, He conquered the enemy. F. TO GIVE US AN EXAMPLE OF A HOLY LIFE There a few verses in the Bible that depicts that His Incarnation was to give us an example of a Holy Life. In Matthew 11:29 the scripture states that “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (RSV) Also in 1 Peter 2:21 it reads as “For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.”(RSV) This scripture clearly illustrate that Jesus incarnation was for the reason for us...
