...ot announced fun events. Some examples of these different Joy Events are the following. Barry Manilow Day since nothing else was happening on that day they celebrated his birthday. Barry Manilow songs were played over the intercom and at the lunch room and cake was served all day. One year a Jungle Party was held where people dressed up in various jungle outfits and a party was held in which jungle music was played and there was a limbo contest. There was Elvis Presley Day on of the company’s most popular event. They held an Elvis look-alike contest, an Elvis impersonator who serenaded the employees, an Elvis trivia contest, and Elvis movie classics running on the VCR in the lunchroom. Another time they had people come in and show the employees how to make plaster mask of themselves and then they decorated those masks with various items. They have also held Late-Night Parties where they cook a large lasagna dinner and have a D.J. to play requests all night long. Weird prizes like cans of SPAM are given at random times through out the night. According to Maslow’s Need Hierarchy there are five human needs Physiological needs, Safety need, Social needs, Esteem needs, and Self-actualization needs. The first three are considered lower level needs, and some employees at Ben & Jerry’s partner-shops fit into these needs. The last two are what Maslow refers to as higher level needs and most employees at Ben and Jerry’s suit well with these needs. For the first one physiological needs, a person’s motivation is made up their need for food, air, water, and shelter. These translate into have a job that will allow you to make a living and Ben and Jerry’s livable wage falls into this. As for Safety needs Ben and Jerry’s health coverage, dental, vision care all fall under this need. Also Ben and Jerry offer six sick days per year, vacation- two weeks for up to five years’ service; three weeks for five to ten years’ service; four weeks after that. These all ...
