Cloudstreet
ƒÄƒÑƒãƒÛƒnƒäƒØƒâƒÕƒÕ required us to produce an original piece of work on our own or in pairs . This had to be at least five minutes long and we worked alone or in pairs. This task required us to work from all three perspectives, actor, director and designer. In working from every aspect of play producing it ensured we created an original piece of work. I chose to work on my own. After reading the set text Cloudstreet, I chose my theme. The theme I chose was gambling. In the book Sam is the gambler. He is concerned with the shifty shadow and believes he knows when his ¡§luck¡¨ is up. Sam at one point gets himself into big trouble with ¡§the union¡¨. He takes of to hide for a bit, Lester helps him, hides Sam at his beach shack. At this point Sam owes two hundred quid. Lester lends him the money to keep trouble away from cloudstreet. My character also has a gambling addiction but its different to Sam. She is a mother and a wife who becomes addicted to casinos. I had to script, direct and design this monologue. Directing was good because there is only one person to direct- yourself, set design and costume design didn¡¦t take to much work once I figured out what I was doing. Acting was what I found the most challenging part, as it was realistic acting. My play adopted a couple of different theatre styles. One was realistic theatre, the other was epic theatre. The epic part of my play came from my break out of character into narrator. My play was greatly influenced by the play ¡§Cloudstreet¡¨.
