Why did the civil war break out in England in 1642?
...g to cut king Charles’ power during the first three years of his reign. This is a long-term factor because Parliament was continuously trying to cut his power down from when he first became king until his third year of his reign. This factor is not as much of a long-term factor than the others as it doesn’t cover as bigger period of time. This doesn’t mean it isn’t a key factor as to how or why the civil was started though. I think this factor is to do with power as the power that Charles has is trying to be cut down by Parliament. Charles decided to rule without Parliament when it would not give him the taxes he wanted. This is a long-term factor because Charles decided to rule without parliament over a long period of time. This is an important fact to do with the build up to the civil war as Charles had a lot of trouble with money. I think that this is a part of money as it mentions about taxes and how parliament wouldn’t give the ones that Charles wanted to him. Charles used fines and ship money to raise money without parliament. Charles found it very difficult to get hold of money but this seemed to help him in some ways and this is why it is an important factor to why the civil war broke out. I think that this is a part of money because it says about Charles raising money without parliament. Scottish rebels who hated Lauds new prayer book attacked England, so Charles had to call parliament to raise money. This is a main fact to do with the brake out of the civil war because it is saying about Lauds new prayer book and how some of the Scottish hate it so they decided to attack England which soon leads to Charles running back to parliament to raise money. I think that this is a part of money because it mentions Charles having to call parliament to raise money. Parliament cut king Charles’ power and refused to let him lead and army against catholic rebels. This is a short-term factor because this time it only took parliament a short time to cut Charles’ power. This is an interesting fact as it makes it sound as if parliament has taken over the king. I think that this is to do with two things power and religion but power slightly more because where it mentions about religion it is a cause of the power as it is the king’s power being cut and the religion is saying about parli...
