Absurdity in The Bet

Not only does the banker bet on two million of his wealth, the lawyer bets fifteen years of his life, “If you mean that seriously, then I bet you I could stay locked up for fifteen years, not five.” First, the two young men bet two millions and five years of one’s life on the morality of imprisonment and capital punishment. Secondly, the lawyer adds ten more years into the bet, raising the amount of money being presented in the bet. Why would a person like the young lawyer waste the five of the best years of his life on such a senseless, preposterous bet like this? And why would he add ten more years for no reason?
