Should we set research priorities according to how they can improve human life?

The former research contribute to the academic field and many students---in some test, reading take a very important role; being unable to read efficiently probably means failing an exam, and in some highly competitive countries such as China and Japan, failing in the tests and exams leads to the loss of many good opportunities. However, the latter research topic may be as important to many people since noise is unbearable to many of them, and the annoying noise may cause mysery in their lives. To some instant, these two reaserches are just different, and they may catch the fancy of differnet people. In another sense, some researches are eccential to our lives in spite that they cannot bring us instant good , still their effects are to be seen in a long run. Often the reseaches in the educational field are of this type compared to the studies in science field. For example,people cannot see the instant effect and the good it does to our lives from a reserch studying how to bring up morally qualified citizens for the country since it may takes ten or even more years to see the result, however, the promblem it aims to solve is eccential by all means.
