In such bad living conditions with habitat destruction, commercial exploitation, pollution and human prejudice, can the animals still thrive and flourish? Have you seen a fat but cute panda that lives in remote mountains in Sichuan Province in China? Nowadays, the total number of pandas in the world is about 1,000 plus because of large area of bamboo forest which pandas live on. Have you heard a story of a kind of bird named “Dodo”? They once lived in a peaceful island. They could not fly because they had small wings but big bodies. Nonnative animals introduced in to this area suddenly interrupted their happy life. Rats “robbed” their food and dogs, cats and pigs chased after them, making them have wounds all over the bodies. “Dodo” extinct with desperation. From the report of the number of endangered species, the number of known California condors was only 157 in 2000. Even worse, there were only 27 in 1987; and the number of whooping cranes was only 180 in the wild and 130 in captivity in 1999. This is the report after taking action in saving endangered species, but the increasing number was still not been pleased. The extinction of even one species could means one food chain would be damaged and not only one species will be influenced. Even worse, the whole food web will not be integrated. The ecosystem would be unstable and imbalanced. Natural cycles would be disrupted and lead to global warming. Thus, we need to prevent the extinction of species. It can also help us to maintain a large gene pool. Many wild animals process favourable genes.
