Chinese Women in America
...overnment is discriminating in the workplace. Although discrimination is illegal, many companies openly favor men over women. In the past, women had little abilities to divorce their husbands. When a couple divorces the woman, they often loses her home and her children. If she does fight to stay in the home the woman is forced to share the home with the husband’s new family. In forcing the woman to share the home with the new family is forcing the woman into homelessness. And no woman would like to live with her ex-husband’s new family. China had this one law that was very strictly enforced towards women which is, the one-child policy, if this law is not obeyed many consequences follow. Women who become pregnant without permission are forced to have abortions. China kills babies by lethal injection at nine months and when the babies are still in the birth canal. Also, when a person fails to obey the law their house is at liberty to be destroyed. Land is another issue that women are discriminated with. The government allows women to own land yet, when a woman marries a man from another village they loose their land at home. Domestic violence is rampant in China; there is very little refuge for women to be safe in China. Here in America we have several havens for women to go to if they are ever in danger. In China, if a shelter that has tried to be established the government has shutdown. I believe there are many ways to help to the Chinese women. First by opening more shelters for women is one of the most obvious ways to help the women but the government of China would not let this happen. Another solution is to raise awareness to the women in the rural areas about their rights. They can do this by educating the women who live there. The women who live in the rural areas need to know about their rights so that they can fight back from people taking them and selling them into slavery.
