KITTEN IN THE COLD
...for her. The story takes place in a small town in Welford, England. This is where the Animal Ark Clinic is located. It’s Winter time, the land is all covered in a big blanket of snow and Christmas is only two weeks away. One day, Mandy was working at the Animal Ark Clinic and all of a sudden Mrs. Hastings called and said that Amber was stuck on her roof. Mandy and James tried several times to rescue the cat but they couldn’t get to her. It was very important for them to rescue Amber because Alex was not going to have her operation and leave her kitten behind. Mandy decided to call the SPCA so they could capture Amber but instead, she leaped to a tree and was gone for good. The news spread that the kitten was lost and Alex’s health would only worsen. So everyone in the community pulled together to try to find her. They tried to use Mandy’s grandpa’s cat Smokey to find Amber because cats are territorial and they know where to go and hide. When Smokey went near grandpa’s greenhouse, he heard a faint meow and his hairs stood up and he started to hiss. Smokey backed off because he sensed there was danger. Mandy and James went outside the greenhouse and saw broken pots that Amber could hide in but the snow was crushing the pots and Mandy was scared that Amber might have been crushed by the heavy snow. They uncovered the snow and found a large pot and Amber was hiding inside it. Amber was very cold and scared so Mandy took her home to take care of her. The ending was a happy one. Mandy took the kitten to Alex and reunited the two of them. Alex cried with joy to see Amber again. The community had raised enough money so that Alex could have her operation.
