“Weakening human values are a threat to our future”
...nt by human values? Different societies hold to different values. Is there a common thread? In recent years in many western democracies there has been a significant change in values. There has been a shift away from the values that were the foundation of those societies. This change is a threat to the continued existence of those societies because much of it has been aimed at “foundational values. Without firm values or a firm foundation people will follow after anything and be persuaded by the next new idea, but without thinking about the consequences. We have replaced the golden rule of “do to one another what you would have them do to you”, with “if it feels good, do it”. A society needs a firm foundation if it is to survive, just as individuals do. Every time a standard is lowered or completely replaced it is another knock for the future. Weakening human values mean that people lose their direction and their very reason for living is questioned. The world today has changed incredibly from that which existed just twenty years ago. After 9:30pm you can’t even turn the TV on without seeing bare flesh, violence, or language that was very unacceptable not so long ago. In every area of our lives we are seeing a rapid decline in human values and what has now become socially acceptable. From school to the workplace the values of humans are declining.
