Safety Minireport
...of the crash. Telling someone the location of where they can drive there vehicle borders on a personal freedom issue and this could take away form the basic of vehicle rollover. Routine driving maneuvers needs to be addressed by a professional or person who is trained at improving someone routine driving skills For all the causes listed for rollover vehicle crash fatalities there is one human behavior that I want to focus on and that is not wearing safety belts which is linked to a majority of all fatalities no matter what the cause. The NHTSA states that 72% of those who died in a vehicle rollover were not wearing safety belts. Wearing your safety belt is a human behavior that is controlled by the individual because in some cars the person sitting in each must engage the safety belt or unengaged those seat belt that engage when you close the door of the vehicle. With the number of rollover vehicle crashes low but the fatality rate the highest and the fatality rate of those not wearing safety belts extremely high, and I am one of those who will drive my SUV without wearing my safety belt, I will concentrate my efforts on those not wearing safety belts. I do not like wearing safety belts because they are to restraining, uncomfortable and they wrinkle my clothes but if wearing my safety belt increases my chances of survivability during a rollover I must reeducate myself. From a public health standpoint it is important to educate drivers and passengers because data show vehicular rollovers increasing yearly due to the increase in the amount of SUV’s (the type of vehicles that rollover occurrence is most likely) on the road and the number of deaths due to the lack of wearing safety belts will increase. By putting on my safety belt every time I ride in a vehicle whether I am driving or a passenger I can be an example to all those in my family all those I share a ride in a vehicle with. When ever I drive I can require that all those who ride with me to buckle their safety. As a consumer from this day forth I can require that all vehicles I purchase will have safety belts that engage when you close the doors. As a citizen I can push for legislation that require all automobile manufacturers to produce vehicles that have safety belts that engage when the doors are closed and do not operate unless they are engaged. With nearly three quarters of fatal rollover crashes occurring in rural areas I me living in an urban area I must come to understand the cultural background of those living in rural areas because they may be required to drive on terrain where rollover is more likely to occur versus the flat paved road I drive on 90% of the time in an urban setting urban setting. Living in the Washington metro area where many different languages...
