The recently acquired Judith Currelly that I am sure you admired over the front hall mantelpiece is what I call “Atlin Bear contemplating human kind” which has been facilitated through the philanthropy of Milton Wong and associates. You can see Takeo Tanabe’s wonderful north-coast land and seascape setting off my official portrait, with another one that glimpses Haida Gwaii across Hecate Strait in the upstairs hall. We are delighted to have Coast Salish Artist Susan Point’s Glass Eagle here in the dining room on loan from the University of Victoria collection and perhaps you have noticed that my official uniform is decorated in Roy Henry Vickers designs. In the Drawing room there are to be found, Myfanwy Spencer Pavelic and Emily Carr. I am proud to have been given some of the work of Charles Elliot that is in my office and he with Richard Hunt created the magnificent Silver Commonwealth Games baton. There is also sculptor Maarten Schaddelee’s ‘Children of the Sun’ is in the front hall and Robin Hopper’s finely crafted, exquisitely delicate aqua bowl to be seen just below Carol Sabiston’s beautiful fabric piece in the drawing room.
