Not only do I feel more educated on the topic but I have also been persuaded to entertain the convictions that Crichton portrayed throughout the book. Crichton's style of telling this story really brought it to life. As I read, all the events were so well thought through that I had to keep reminding myself that it was only fiction. Even in remembering such, the author had a way of convincing me that these events are realistic and may not be exaggerated from what really happens in politics and science. I could not speak of the effectiveness of this book without giving proper accolades to the author for his extreme attention to description and detail. Throughout the book, I could picture in my mind the events that were taking place as if I were there. It was just as exciting if not more than watching a movie. I appreciate the author's research and the sources that he laid out for me to see. It made that novel seem much more realistic and convincing. There were quite a few themes that were approached, and I believe the main one has to do with that of Politicized Science. It is obvious that politics and science can be dangerous when mixed together, at least to the point of manipulating the public to gain or retain power. As the author used the example of global warming, I was thinking of how naïve the general public can be. I feel that too much is taken as truth by way of how the media portray controversial issues. I think that much of Michael Crichton's motivation to write such a novel is his desire to persuade people to research for themselves issues that affect our lives.
