...seeing is misleading. Most of us beings are given the gift of the five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Vision is the most dominant sense in humans. Most companies depend on the motto that ‘seeing is believing’ in order to sell their product or to gain a customer. Even individuals beautify themselves in order to present themselves for one another’s sight. We are told in our everyday situations that we need to look the part in order to land a role, to lure in a customer, or to attract a partner. People say ‘don’t judge a book by its cover,’ but it is literally impossible to do so. We form opinions about people by the way they walk, the way they dress, the way they stand, or even by the way they eat. First impressions are crucial. ‘You never get a second chance at a first impression.’ We do not show up to a professional job interview dressed in baggy jeans and a wrinkled over-sized tee-shirt, hoping our personality will shine through. That is not how things work. People’s perceptions about us do matter, and they obtain their strongest perception about us from the first impression we leave on them. The very first impression we leave is through what other people see from us. However, this natural instinct to believe what we see can many times cause us trouble. Seeing can be very deceptive. For example, when you watch a commercial on television, products are advertised to look so amazing that you’re convinced the product must be had. But how often do you buy that product to find out that it is anything but what the advertisements make it out to be?
