... is the tool that balances out the amount of available resources and human requirements. - The imbalance between demand of humans, and supplies available forms the biggest obstacle in the way of any great improvement in society. As a result it is impossible to have both society and the demand of mankind at an equilibrium - The principle of population. Meaning that eventually population will overwhelm the available resources of the Earth. Proof - The current situation in African countries are an excellent example which illustrates Thomas Malthus’s theory of demographics. For example Nigeria has an estimated population of 137, 253, 133, in a total area of 923,768 sq. km, with a population density of 148.5 people per square km. This population density is relatively high, compared to industrialized countries such as Canada (3.2) and the United States(34). The staggering population and lack of natural resources have led to widespread famine and poverty in Nigeria. The poverty rate in Nigeria is said to be 60% as of 2002. Most of the available employment for poor rural people is in the agriculture sector. These people are only concerned about achieving basic necessities such as food in order to survive because all they have to rely on is farm produce as a source of food. As a result a low quality of life has surfaced among Nigerians, and other problems such as corruption and crime have greatly risen.
