He became an actor and got a lot of very popular roles but he also started to make his own films. In 1968 Polanski got to know the actress Sharon Tate and they married. The following summer Sharon Tate (she was eight months pregnant with their first baby) and three of Polanski`s friends were brutally murdered by members of the infamous Charles Manson cult. In 1971 Polanski made his next film, Macbeth--an adaption of Shakespeare`s violent play. It was seen by a lot of critics as a form of diary of his own life and above all of the last few years. He wanted to write about this terrible time and so he trained this into his version of Macbeth. After this film Polanski produced several other successful films, e.g. Chinatown (1974), Tess (1979), and Frantic (1988). Now Roman Polanski is 77 years old and he still likes to act in films and on stage. As you can see, a lot of scenes are inspired by Roman Polanski`s real-life experience with the SS and with the Manson tragedy.
