Cultural, Historical and Ethnic Heritage Analysis
... of my culture is very simple and original. Afrika is the root of all civilizations including language, writing, art, music, dance and technology. The original traditions of my culture were “washed away” during the Afrikan slave trade. Today, we are more of a religious culture opposed to being a spiritual culture striving for freedom, justice and equality. We have no knowledge of our true spiritual identity. Other aspects of my culture consist of food, medicine and music. Our original diet is vegetarian. Today, we have kept most of our original culinary habits, tastes and food preferences such as yams, fish, rice and beans as well as cooked greens, which have remain the main component of the diet. Wholistic medicine was widely promoted such as the knowledge of plants and leaves used to be eaten and to be utilized as herbs for medicinal purposes. Music is a very vital aspect to my culture by its deep spiritual meaning, since we are the true originators of music today. Overall, music is an integral part of daily living. MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AS A MEMBER OF MY CULTURE: Fall of 1994, Shaw University, Raleigh, NC (small black university), some college mates and I were late for the campus curfew.
