These concept shows there are five distinct categories that occur in the emergence of new technology. At the first phase, the hype cycle concept describe as technology trigger .This is the event that puts the new technology on the public radar scope. This often comes via press releases, product launch or public demonstrations. The technology trigger creates much interest from the IT industry. The second phase is Peak of Inflated Expectations. As the technology evolves, a dissonance between the hype from the Technology Trigger and actual deliverables becomes evident. The immature technology struggles at this point as it has been pushed to the limits. The technology fails frequently to meet the needs and expectations of its users. The third phase is Trough of Disillusionment. At this point of cycle, because the technology does not live up to its over inflated expectations, it rapidly becomes unfashionable, and the press abandons the topic. The fourth phase is Slope of Enlightenment. The technology becomes less hype and more solid as adopters gain a better understanding for its application, associated risks and benefits. A cottage industry of support systems evolves. The last phase is Plateau of productivity. The real-world benefits of the technology are demonstrated and accepted.
