Curious Incident
...s talking to one of his neighbors saying, “I wanted to come and tell you that I didn’t kill Wellington. And I also want to find out who killed him.” (30) Chris is basically saying that he didn’t kill Wellington, and that he wants to find out who killed him. Chris, while talking to Mr. Thompson, asked him, “Did you see anything suspicious on Thursday evening?” (36) Chris is asking questions to see if he can find out who killed Wellington. This novel is classified as a murder- mystery novel because Chris is trying to find out who killed Wellington, the murdered dog. Also, Chris’s personality and his thought sequence is a mystery as well. The way he thinks is unacceptable, and in some cases just not logical. Chris claims that, “3 red cars in a row made it a quite good day and 5 red cars in a row made it a super good day….” (24) This analogy has no rationality, and clearly shows that Chris has a few problems with his brain, and the way he thinks is just bad. On the way to school one morning, Chris saw 4 yellow cars in a row, which made it a black day, and he says, “I didn’t eat anything at lunch and I sat in the corner of the room all day and read my A-level maths course book.” (53) So just because he sees 4 yellow cars in a row, he doesn’t eat anything. This is a perfect example that Chris’s thoughts are mysterious to. Chris’s anomalous thoughts add to the reason why this is a mystery novel. Lastly, this novel differs from a murder mystery novel; because most murder novels ONLY focus on trying to solve the mystery. Chris doesn’t put all of his attention on trying to solve the case. Ch...
