There are four components towards positive psychological behavior; Self-efficacy, hope, optimism and resilience. The first component is self-efficacy, which is defined as “one’s confidence in his or her ability to mobilize the motivation, cognitive resources, and course of action necessary to execute a specific course of action within a given context.”. People who are self-efficacious choose challenging tasks and try to accomplish their goals successfully. So who can name me a few methods in developing self-efficacy? Performance attainments, training and coaching all help employee’s confidence in their ability to accomplish tasks. The second aspect involves Hope, which is the inner will power to invest the energy necessary to achieve their goals. Those with high hope are also motivated by their sense of having the capability to develop ways to get the things they want, which provides them with the ability to generate alternative pathways towards the accomplishment of their goals if the original ones have been blocked. Who can name me another method of enhancing employee hope? Answer: Employee empowerment. Why? Because it provides hope for employees giving them a message telling them that they are going to succeed. The third aspect is optimism. It involves a positive explanatory style that attributes positive events to internal, permanent and pervasive causes, and negative events to external, temporary and situation specific ones.
