My Decision to Continue Education

...ts never had the opportunity to pursue higher education due to a multitude of reasons however I was determined to see my way through collegiate studies, and when the time came I was ready. My first year at Southern Vermont College was not a walk in the park by any means. I had difficulties with finances which forced me to work full time wile I was in school. This ultimately resulted in poor scholastic performance and I nearly failed out. Through the use of effective time management and the aid of lending institutions I was able to overcome the obstacles I faced and graduated in 2001 with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and also received the “Linda Curry Award” for recognition of the student who realized his or her potential through considerable adversity. My desire to continually challenge myself stems from my quest for the American dream. The American dream can be defined in many different was and in today’s day and age most likely has a different meaning for everyone. I can remember the first time I heard the phrase, I was a freshman at Southern Vermont College in a sociology class when my professor began to discuss the American dream of success, I was instantly intrigued. According to the Wikipedia online encyclopedia the American dream can be defined as the idea held by many that through hard work, courage and determination one can achieve prosperity. I have always had a desire to improve myself for the prospects of a better life and I thrive on hard work. My current position as a case manager at ACT Corporation has provided me the opportunity to discover my calling in life; however it has also made me realize the need to pursue higher education in order to achieve the goals I have set for myself.
