Dancer, Texas

...emely close relationship with his sister. Specifically, when he goes riding for the last time with his sister, she tells him about the college catalog that has been lying around the house for him to find. Then the leader of the group, Keller, has to have everything planned in regards to the trip to California. His parents died when he was young, so he only has his grandfather to take care of him. The tables turned once he got older, and he became the caretaker for his grandfather. To illustrate, there was a community of old ladies that were always bringing Keller’s grandfather food, and the only way that Keller could determine which plate belonged to whom was by placing post-it notes on the plates. The cause of problems arises when Terrell-Lee’s mother pushes him to tell his friends that he is not going to be able to go to California because he needs to work in the family business. This is not what Terrell-Lee really wants, but he would do anything for his family. When Terrell-Lee breaks the news to his three friends, automatically Squirrel and Jonathan begin to think about whether this trip is really what they want to do with their lives. Since his friends were all backing out on the vow, he needed to have a plan to fall back on. That plan consisted of asking Vivian, one of his closest friends, to marry him. Vivian, who I consider to be Keller’s caretaker, gives him insight into why he should leave Dancer; she tells Keller that this life is not meant for everyone and that he needs to do what he thinks is best. Keller then talks to his grandfather and tells him that he cannot go because he needs to take care of him. The grandfather tells Keller that he must go because there are various ladies that are just waiting for Keller to leave. So now Keller has no reason for staying and various reasons for why he should go. In the end it is these two boys Keller and Terrell-Lee who end up taking the journey to California.
