We as a society need to start back instilling morals in our young people. Public school teen pregnancy rate in the United States is the highest in the world, with more than 820,000 babies born to teenagers each year. We do not need more laws, but more morals in our public schools. In a time where violent crimes in schools have went up, children should be able to pray when ever they want too. Can you name a private school where students have opened fire on each other with automatic weapons? Children in private schools have code of conducts based on the Ten Commandments. By not honoring God we open a door to hatred and violence. The crime committed at Columbine High School was tragic; no amount of gun control or new laws can prevent the master minds behind such tragic massacres. We do not need new laws; instead we need a change of heart and a humble acknowledgement that our nation was built on the simple phrase, “In God We Trust.” If God is not allowed in our schools, then why do we allow Him to be stamped on our countries currency? The First Amendment states that, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…..” If congress has stated that they will not entefer with the freedom of religion, than why have they removed it from our public schools? Does separation of Church and State mean that only Congress can pray before they began each meeting? Before beginning a class, a teacher should have the same right to bring order to his/her class by at least offering a moment of silence. Robert L.
