Solomon Chapters 7-9
... I say that fredom is good because that is all I know. If I grew up were I was controlled that would be the way of life that I know. I see on TV how others have to live and see how bad it is because I know what it is like to have the freedom of choice, and speech. I can't say that giving someone freedom is always giving something good. After someone has lived a life without freedom if we turn them loose and allow them to do what they please when they please....they are liable to go crazy. 7. Yes, a person who is not in a relationship is more free than one who is married or dating. Once you are dating you have to worry about what your partner is doing or going so you are not free to make plans unless you discuss them with your spouse. A person with a job is more tied down than a person without one. We have all received a phone call froma freind wanting to go to the beach for the weekend and we tell them..."I would but I have to work." But I guess if you don't have a job you don't have much freedom of what you eat..or surviveunless you have a money from somewhere. Ch 8 1. No. First we have to establish what makes someone a good person. What are the needed qualities to be considered a good person? Is it being nice, considerate, modest...what is it? You can be generous and a great people person...the life of the party but can still be living a lie. You don't have to be true to yourself to be considered a good person...you have to be true to yourself to make yourself happy. 2. Yes, Most people who are morally correct and lead a good life will normally be happy. People who enjoy pleasing others are usually happy at other peoples fortunes. I would not say that morally good people are assured to be happy but they have a better chance of being happy. Most people like that are very optimistic and see the glass as half full. They always find the brighter side of life. 3. I guess it depends on who point of view you see it from. The Sadist would say that the pain from the victims would be justified but the victim or anyone who is normal would say that it is not. I don't feel that it would be justified. I don't understand how somone would enjoy putting pain and cruelty on another individual. 4. Yes, there are several things I can think of that are worth dying for. Number 1 would definately be my daughter. If my dying would allow her to live safe and free I would do it without hesitation. I agree with Camus. Think about all of the things you would die for and it becomes clear on how much we have to live for. 5. I guess we in the 21st century have become spoiled on the material things of life. I see plenty of preachers and decons with nice cars and big houses. I am sure that their job consumes them to allow them to make enough money to have their house and cars. This becomes a problem where their priorties or not in the right place. We should work to live not live to work. If a religion stresses the finer things in life (material things) I would have to question the roots of that religion. We should leave this earth as we arrived...with nothing. There is a better life on high. 6. Yes, Even though the average person appears to be putting someone else's needs in front of our on but we are always wondering what is in it for me. In every situation the average person will wonder what they can gain from it. 7. Obviously making money has to be a priority, but there are other tangibles in business that can go along way. Examples such as friendships, busisness partners, experiences and meeting people definatley bring joy to people. I think that all of these are important but keeping a business afloat by profit has to be the most important. 8. I believe that abortion is alright in 2 situations. 1 is rape and the victim became pregnant by the rape. 2 is incest. These situations it will best suite everyone to have an abortion. Abortion is not a form of birth control and should not be used as such. 9. We have all agreed on a list of morals and behaviors so to speak. The Constitiution. We should all obey these because our forefathers got together and made them for the common man. We should be moral if we follow the injunctions. 10. NO...how can we say that a good person can hurt someone or that a person can be wicked without ever doing a violent act. What is good and what is wicked? What is difference between the 2? Can we establish what makes someone good and what makes someone wicked. 11. I used to think success but with recent events I would have to say happiness. Some would say that happiness comes from being successful. What defines being successful? I can tell you what makes me happy but it depends on what facet of my life we are talking about as to whether I am successful. Most people think of money as success. I would chose happiness because in order for me to be happy I simply surround my self with the people I love and enjoy my daughter and family. That would make me happy. 12. I think it simply mens that No One is above the law. I disagree with the statement in this question. Our country is ruled by men who are guided by laws. We hold men to a very high standard, especially the ones we elect as President. The laws are here to give us a reason to live by. The Man we elect to lead our country is our leader and he is aided by the laws of the land. Ch 9 1. I would prefer to live in a quiet more or less homogenous town in which everyone shares the same values. It just seems to good to be true where everyone would get along and if everyone shared the same values and morals then everyone would get along. I like the small quiet neighborhoods and rural towns. The ones were the entire town shuts down on Friday night to watch high school footbal. Where everyone knows everyone so that I have several hundred baby sitters to tell me what my kids are doing when I am not around. 2. Yes. I believe the dealth penalty for crimes that rate death. The bible says "An eye for an eye" If you are sick enough to take somone's life then you rate to lose yours. You are simply stealing air that good people should breathe. You are costing the tax payer thousands of dollars by staying in jail and eating and living for free. Even if you are locked up for 23 hours a day...how much do you pay in rent. When was the last time you bought your own groceries. IF you commit a crime that rates the death penalty you should be put to death. 3. No. Obviously by the time someone has a job on capital hill they are adults. Once you are grown so to speak you have to start being held accountable for your own actions. I don't think the President should be impeached for his subordinates breaking the law....unless he had something to do with it. If he did not then the subordinates should be punished on their own accord. 4. I think it should be payed for by the federal government. There is a growing problem with homeless people, howe...
