Exodus vs. The Prince of Egypt

The princess approved of the Miriam’s suggestion and after a couple of years, the princess and the Pharaoh finally adopted Moses. (Exodus 2:1-10) 2. Moses met Zipporah in Midian, according to the Bible. In the film, they met in Egypt during the pronouncement of Ramses’ obligations as the prince. Also, the film did not mention Moses and Zipporah’s son, Gershom. (Exodus 2: 11-24) 3. The Bible tells of the time when God tested Moses and Zipporah during their journey back to Egypt. God tried to kill Moses, but Zipporah showed her faithfulness and unconditional love for Moses that she cut the foreskin of their son and placed it upon Moses’ feet. This act of self-sacrifice and selflessness made God spare the life of Moses. This part of the story was not portrayed in the film. (Exodus 4:18-26) 4. Aaron, Moses’ brother, also received a call from God, according to the Bible. He was told to meet Moses in the desert and he was also commanded to join and help Moses in convincing the Pharaoh to free the Israelites. God explained to both Moses and Aaron the miracles that will happen once the king refuses to liberate them from slavery. This important role of Aaron was not emphasized in the film. (Exodus 4:27-31; Exodus 7:8-13) 5. The Bible says the Israelites once neglected and hated Moses during the time when he was convincing Pharaoh to free God’s people. They were very furious to Moses because the king ordered the Egyptian officers to double the workload of the slaves. In the film, the Israelites showed their full support to Moses and none of their disagreements was mentioned.
